1. Majuli, Assam

Majuli is the world’s largest freshwater island, located on River Brahmaputra. It is 20 km from Jorhat and is mostly occupied by Assamese tribals. It is often called the cultural capital of the state, with festivities being held throughout the year. The most popular festival here is Raas, which is a grand spectacle. Delhiites will especially love this place, since it is pollution free and is full of lush greenery.

2. Kolakham, West Bengal

This is quite an offbeat hill station, located just across the hill from Rishop. There are many flights between Delhi to Bagdogra, which is the easiest way to reach this place. As far as your eye goes, you will see lush valleys and snow clad Kabru, Kabrudome and Kanchenjunga ranges. If you are adventurous, take a walk through the jungle trails. In fact, if you trek for 5 km, you will reach the spectacular Changey Falls. After deboarding your Delhi to Bagdogra flight, you can take a car to Kolakham.

3. Churu, Rajasthan

Churu is a small yet beautiful city, located in the Shekhawati region of North Rajasthan. This is quite an ancient locality, with houses built way back in the 1830s. One can see the gorgeous havelis of Churu from the windows of Hawa Mahal. The city is also often known as the Gateway to the Thar Desert, since it lies at its edge. This is a great weekend getaway spot, particularly for the people of Delhi.

4. Chopta, Uttarakhand

If you want to meet your trekking goals this year, plan a trip to picturesque Chopta. This is the base camp for Chandrashila, Deoria Tal and Tungnath. If you are a newbie, you can opt for guided treks and learn some professional trekking skills. Landlocked Delhiites can also have an enriching experience in the sprawling meadows, lined with deodars and alpines. Chopta promises stunning panoramic views of Nanda Devi, Trishul and Chaukhamba peaks. Just like the Delhi to Bagdogra flights, there are plenty flights to take you to Uttarakhand.

5. Kamshet, Maharashtra

Kamshet is an idyllic location, surrounded by Bhedsa caves, Khondeshwar Temple, Pavana Lake and Shinde Wadi Hills. It is located 45 km from Pune and is a paraglider’s paradise. One can get a bird eye’s view of the paddy fields and muddy huts and enjoy gallons of fresh air while paragliding here. There are tons of flying schools here that let you have a world class experience. The best time to visit is anytime between April and September.

All these places are great for solo travel, in case you are planning one. You do not need to travel to exotic locations to make the best of a holiday. These lesser known places can offer memories for a lifetime too. Make sure to reach Siliguri on time, in case you are taking a return flight from Bagdogra to Delhi.
